I'M IN LOVE!!!!!

With my mascara!

Just wanted to drop a quick note for all my lovelies that like to wear mascara. A good liner and mascara is sometimes all the makeup you need to get your face a little pop!

I went to my local dollar store the other day and found L'oreal's Telescopic Mascara in Carbon Black. I was interested in the mascara because of the wand. I like that you can use it from every angle. BUT lordy mercy....when I put this mascara on...my lashes were bananas!

It really does get every lash and it's really intense. I love this mascara! I don't know how much it normally retails for, I got it for $3.99...this will be a staple in my makeup collection.

Speed Dating Marathon-50 First Dates!!!

IT'S RAINING MEN!!!!

LOL!

So I went to a speed dating event on Saturday hosted by NYEasyDates! This was called a speed dating marathon! I had 50 2 minute dates!!

YES....I SAID 50!!!


It was interesting...I didn't really meet anyone that I was drooling over...but there were a lot of NY Transplants...people from different countries that have decided to make NY their home for whatever reason. The venue was very nice and very accommodating for this large event, M1-5 Bar. That was my first time there. We were given a free drink (well drinks only) and free appetizers which were absolutely delish!


After the event I did exchange numbers with a guy that I met that actually lives in my neighborhood and is a freelance video editor. So that will definitely be helpful for when I start getting into my career. So maybe that was the sole reason for me attending the event, who knows what knowing this guy can lead to, professionally!


All in all it was a good Saturday night...

Diet Soda Linked To Higher Risk Of Heart Attacks & Stroke!

I'm not a diet soda drinker....I hardly drink soda...but if I do...darn sho don't pick up the diet ones....hate the way it taste. My mom is a soda drinker....she has switched to diet soda...so when I heard them talking about this on the news...I was paying close attention.


Studies suggest that diet soda could cause heart disease and/or stroke in those that drink it on a regular basis, i.e. everyday. 


Columbia Univ. and the Univ. of Miami did a study in which Dr. Mitchell Elkind was one of the lead researchers of the study.

“What our study shows is that drinking diet soda may be associated with an increased risk of vascular events, by which we mean strokes, heart attacks, and other causes of death that can be due to vascular disease,” Dr. Elkind said.

The nine-year study involved more than 2,500 people of different ethnicities in northern Manhattan. The study found that those who drank diet soda every day had a 61 percent higher risk of crippling diseases like stroke or heart disease. (info from CBS News New York)

My mom drinks this stuff every day...maybe two or three a day....they suggest that diet soda may be more dangerous than regular soda....

SO ladies and gents, you may wnat to cut back on your soda intake and try to increase your water intake. Even though I don't really drink soda...I still need to work on increasing my water intake. I can sit around for hours and not drink a drop of ANYTHING....sometimes I have to consciously make myself drink water...

We have to do better y'all...Our health depends on it!!

He's Sorry He Got CAUGHT!!!

So I'm watching the news (I have it on in the mornings before work to see what the weather is doing) and they were talking about Buffalo Congressman, Christopher Lee, sending out this half naked photo to some chick on craigslist! WTH?!


First off, you're married? You shouldn't be scouting out women on craigslist.


Second, why would you send a pic of your face? You're a congressman! 


Third, you're married? You shouldn't be scouting out other women PERIOD!!


He lied about being married, he, allegedly, described himself as being  “a very fit, fun, classy guy’ — who promises “not to disappoint.” The pic was posted on a website called gawker.com. I guess he just got to the point where he just didn't give a damn....but ask him and he says, “it’s been a tremendous honor to serve the people of western New York. I regret the harm that my actions have caused my family, my staff and my constituents.”


YEA RIGHT!!!


You're not sorry that you did it, Congressman Lee.....YOU'RE SORRY YOU GOT CAUGHT!!


But you did send a pic with your face so............maybe you wanted to get caught!!

Speed Dating Part 3!

Hey y'all....so I was going to make a video blog but...I just wasn't up to it once I got home from work yesterday!

So I went to a speed dating event hosted by Moca Speed Connections. I was not impressed. There were 15 women and 7 men! WHO DOES THAT?!!! That event should have been canceled! The host said that men registered but they were a no show....I don't know how true that is....I mean I guess there are people out there that pay for things and then don't show up! If you got money to waste....then why not..right?!

Anyway, I won't be going to any more of their events especially if I have to pay for it!

I did meet a cool dude, well he seems cool ha! He goes to a lot cultural type events in Brooklyn so I'll definitely try to keep in touch with him for that reason. I don't hang out in Brooklyn too much so that would be a nice change of scenery for me!

Anyhoo...Most likely I will go to some more events later on in the month!

I will keep you posted!!

Speed Dating Part 2!

Alright my lovelies...oops I did it again! ha!


So I went speed dating again this week, twice actually! I went to an event on Monday which was really fun! It was speed dating but with a Trivia type twist...so there were 7 rounds, 10 questions per round. My team consisted of me and 2 girls, we named ourselves BK Divas (one of the girls live in Brooklyn and my mom grew up in Brooklyn so that's how we came up with the name). My teammates were Karen, from Astoria (found out we live a few blocks from each other; how cool is that?), and Judy from BK.


Each round the male team would go to a new table! I must say I did meet some rather smart gentlemen! It seemed like each round we got a great group of guys that were very knowledgeable in that specific theme for that round. In the end, my team won the grand prize!! I think the guy that was tallying the points accidentally gave us an extra point but sssshhhh don't tell nobody! ha! The grand prize was a $25 gift certificate for food/drinks for the bar (we were at Bar 12 in Manhattan). We were hungry so we decided to stay there and used the certificates for dinner ($75 total with all three certificates). We even invited one of the guys that was in the last round with us to stay...our bill for 4 people (food/drinks) was $77.27, the food was really good too!


The guy was a cool dude...he offered to take me and Karen out to dinner! Judy had already left by this point. Please believe I will be reminding him of this! ha!


So I went to another event Thursday night...it was a regular speed dating format I think I met around 11 guys....2 that I already knew from previous events. We were at Nirvana in Manhattan, really nice spot its a lounge/bar downstairs with a restaurant upstairs. They serve Indian food. The host provided appetizers for us and I must say..it was rather tasty....so I may go back there to try out the food! 


I have yet to meet anyone that I would want to go out with on a real date...but I'm enjoying myself so that's all that matters right now!!

Hey guys I came across a free service for New Yorkers that need a ride home during late nights on Fridays and Saturdays. It's a non-profit organization who is dedicated to getting people home safely. I'll definitely keep this number handy....no more paying for a taxi ride from the city!! I think I will also like to look into donating and/or volunteering!

Carlina White Reunited With Parents After 23 Years!

GOD IS AMAZING!!

I'm not sure if you've heard the story about Carlina White. This was in the New York Post this morning; She was kidnapped from a Harlem hospital 23 years ago when she was only 19 days old. Her parents had taken her to the hospital because she was running a fever, and she was snatched. I couldn't imagine going through something like that. Thank God the family has been reunited!!

Clothes Swapping!!

Hey guys....so I'm always cleaning out my closet and giving away clothes, shoes, what have you...been doing that ever since I was a little girl. I guess that's the reason I've always had a lot of clothes and shoes (if you want something give it away...ha!).

In Georgia the thrift stores as really THRIFT stores, shirts for $1, pants for $2, jackets for $3 etc....but up here in New York...that's a different story. I haven't gone to too many thrift stores but they are pricey. My friend needed a blazer for a job interview so I suggested that she go down the street to the Goodwill. She found one but she paid $12 for it. WHAT?! At Goodwill....$12 for a USED blazer...honey...she could've went to Easy Pickins (a nice, inexpensive clothing store for all you that don't know) and got a BRAND NEW blazer for that price!

So this time around I decided to REALLY  GIVE my clothes away. So I posted an ad on this yahoo group called Freecycle!. This is a place to go when you want to get or give something for free! Just type in your city and state to see if there is a Freecycle group in your area!

I gave away some nice dress slacks and shirts, a few handbags, and bras! Within minutes after posting I got everything SOLD (well given away!)

And it couldn't have come at a better time for one of the ladies, she just got a new job so she needed those dress slacks!!

It just makes my day knowing that I'm in a position to spare enough to help others!

This same lady also put me up on game with other clothes swapping groups in the New York City area....they are on meetup.com. (great site for those that don't know, check it out!)

So I've done my good deed for the week!....now I have to replace those slacks come spring....who knows...I may be able to find some nice ones at a clothes swap!!

I Went Speed Dating Y'all!! :-D

One of my intentions for 2011 is to expand my social circle...meeting new friends (guys & gals) and trying out events for Singles such as Speed Dating and other type of events where you can meet people face to face. I don't want to do the online dating again...majority of the guys that I have dated in New York I met online so I have nothing against it, I just prefer to meet someone face to face so I know up front what I'm getting..physically!

So New York EasyDates hosted a Speed Dating event, the format was Everyone Meets Everyone, which means that they have rounds until every girl and guy have gone on a "date". So....this is how the night went:

We signed in, got a sheet to fill out our name and it had spaces for you to write down the names of the guys that you meet, then we sat at our assigned table. The women are stationary and the men rotate. So that night I had 10 3 minute dates..I think it was 3 minutes or was it 5 minutes? Not sure but anyway....after the minutes are up, they ring the bell and your date moves to the next table. After the event, you log on to the website, put the names of the guys/girls you would like to meet again. If the same person you picked picks you then you will be matched and given each others' email and the rest is up to the two of you!

IT WAS FUN!! I didn't meet anyone I was interested in seeing again but I do plan to do things like that more this year!

I found another site that have Speed Dating events for people of color, www.mocaspeedconnections.com and they are reasonably priced at $20 per event, some places are minimum $35 per event so it's something you may do once or twice a month or more if your bank account permits. :-D

They have an event coming up in Feb. that I may go to for people with (and lovers of) natural hair! 

My horoscope forecasts a very active social life for me this year so I'm looking forward to it!
